Grand Union parking lot in Williamstown. Now the site of Textron Financial

I had Mr. Gniadek for chemistry at Drury. He had mentioned a few times that he would enter a rally of some sort with his cool 12 cylinder Jaguar. If it is a rally, the man next to him may be his navigator and that may be a map of the rally course they are studying.

"The Tri-State Trials," a Jaguar rally, started with breakfast at the former British Maid restaurant in Williamstown (now the Orchards)and ended with dinner at Taconic Park restaurant. Participants were given directions for a tour of the tri-state area covering over 100 plus miles and taking about 3 hours. The participants were judged on their navigational skills. The winner was determined by how close he/she came to the accepted time and distance deternimed by the rally committee. Wolfgang Topel was a former president of North American Jaguar Association.
