It is directly across from the foot of Gallup Street and what was William Pinsonnault's grocery store on the corner of Gallup and Union street The cement structure was the wheel house that controlled the flow through the gates - as kids could walk down the creek from Houghton school go all the way under Gallup and Uion Street through the tunnel and come out at the dam and jump across and cath the ladder and go up into the wheel house - musta been really nuts

As youngsters, 1930's we used to skate at the dam and after christmas we would have bonfires with the cast off trees. I recall one year, about 1936, I got too close to the dams edge and Martin (Marty) Taylor later captain N>A> fire Dep't. and grocer on River St., in one sweep grabed me and pulled me from the edge, he scolded me no end for being so careless. After marriage I lived in the basement appartment of Billy Pinseneaults home for about 4 or 5 years. That was th era of much snow and good freezing conditions.

I lived in the very beginning of Beaver St. from 1938 until I got married in 1956.My parents were still there until thge seventies. These comments, especially about Houghton school , the creek and the tunnel brought back memories. Thanks.
