The younger Bishop boys had been painting the house at 400 West Main Street for weeks and one evening when it was getting dark, I (John) painted this "help" on the side and did not tell anyone. The next morning (Sunday) Randy Trabold knocked on the door and asked who did it and if he could take a photo. Mom did not know about the public request we made and was not too thrilled about it. In any case, Jim and I put on our old painting close and Randy took the photo and it was in the Monday Transcript. Too funny the photo still exists!!

It was a family project to paint the house. As close as I can come to remembering is after 1971 and before 1978. Thanks so much for a good memory. I had not realized it was in the paper until a neighbor called me that day laughing

I remember painting this house. This was the easiest part of the house to paint. It took a lot of paint. It looked nice after it was done.

I remember Billy (on the ladder) painting his house with his oldest son Frank. It was Franks idea to advertize for help. People were poor then and the next day 5 guys showed up to help. They had the whole house done in 2 days. It is a really big house and it still looks great today.

During this painting of the house, I (Tom Bishop, oldest son) had the job of painting the front peak over the porch, which is the highest one on the house that overlooks West Main Street. I had the job of painting the peak because we didn't have any ladders or equipment high enough to reach the peak. I had to climb the ladder as far as a could, and then climb off the ladder, grab hold of the scroll work on the peak, and pull myself up to paint the peak. When my Father painted the house, prior, he hired contractors to paint the peak.
