Ralph hAd a stand on his farm after he retired that he supplied with flowers from his greenhouse and flowers and vegetables from his garden. To protect the transplanted tomato plants from the cool spring weather and possible frosts he planted them inside old tires.

This was my grandfather, Ralph Blood, preparing tomato plants. He used tires to keep in moisture and help protect them from extremes in temperature. He ran a vegetable stand on the main road in Stamford. He had a wonderful green thumb, was an avid hunter and a wonderful man.
